Commercial fishing boats out of Newport caught more than half of the halibut quota during a ten-hour fishing opportunity June 25. Over 121,000 halibut were caught during the quick season between Northern California, Oregon and Washington. Another ten-hour window opens July 9, but the quota will be 34,000 fish. Sport fishermen also landed an estimated 113,000 halibut over a 12-day period covering four fishing opportunities between Cape Falcon on the North Oregon Coast, and Humbug Mtn. on the South Oregon Coast this summer.
