“April Showers Bring May Flowers” is the theme of the 2016 Homemaker’s Holiday, an annual event hosted by the Coos County Family & Community Educators and the OSU Coos County Extension Service. Carl Bender, longtime owner of 3B’s Nursery, will be the keynote speaker. Carl will share gardening tips gained from years in the profession and take questions as well. Entertainment will be provided by Sea Breeze Harmony Chorus, a performing women’s chorus singing a cappella, four-part harmony in the barbershop style. Attendees will have a selection of four enjoyable as well as educational classes to attend: “Make Your Own Seed Tape:” learn the benefits of planting with seed tape while making a seed tape to take home; “Create a Multi-season Wreath:” this wreath-making demonstration will show how to make a basic wreath that can be changed to reflect the changing seasons; “Who Was Claude Monet?” explore the beautiful world of Claude Monet with our instructor who has recently returned from a trip to Paris; and “What the Heck Are Worm Castings & Why Should You Care?” learn about the amazing benefits of using worm castings in your garden and how to construct your own worm bed. Homemaker’s Holiday guests will have the opportunity to shop the plant sale and/or purchase drawing tickets for a variety of lovely gift baskets. A continental breakfast and sandwich and salad luncheon are included in the ticket price. The event will be held on Friday, April 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road in Coos Bay. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any FCE member for $8, or at the door for $10. For more information call the Coos County Extension Service at 541-572-5263, ext. 25292 or 25299.
