On April 11th at 4:27 am, the Coos Bay Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire in a carport at 1903 Idaho drive which is located in the Englewood area of Coos Bay. The first arriving firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. The home owners and two other occupants that rent part of the building were home at the time of the fire. They heard noises and saw light coming from the carport area; and upon investigation, they discovered that a vehicle that was located in the carport was on fire. The owner attempted to extinguish the fire with his garden hose, but he was not successful. Everyone safely exited the home and called 911. The home is owned by Doyle & Carolyn Williams, and it was also occupied by Ken & Nancy Stiennon. An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Coos Bay Fire Department. The fire started in a vehicle that was located in the carport, and it spread to the structure. The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, the Coos Bay Fire Department was assisted at the scene by North Bend Fire Department, North Bay Fire Department, Charleston Fire Department, Millington Fire Department, and Green Acres Fire Department. Bay Cities Ambulance and Pacific Power also assisted at the scene. The Coos Bay Fire Department estimates the fire damage to the structure to be $250,000 and $60,000 to the contents. The owners and occupants of the structure have insurance on the building and their contents. No injuries were reported.
