Legionnaires’ Disease Bug at Roseburg VA, Dec. 24

A bug that causes a severe form of pneumonia has been detected at the Roseburg VA Medical Center. Routine water sampling in buildings one, two and five on the main campus revealed positive for Legionella pneumophila. No patients or employees have been diagnosed with the disease. Bottled water is being distributed throughout the affected buildings while water is being heated, and chorine added in an attempt to kill the bacteria.
