Sutherlin joined Marshfield as co-boy’s champions of the 2014 4A Far West League basketball season with a 57-38 win at Douglas (0-12, 1-20) Friday night in Winston. Both the Pirates (14-10) and Bulldogs (18-5) finished with 10-2 league records and split their two games this year with each winning on their home court. The two will meet Monday night, 6 p.m., at Coquille High School to determine the league’s No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the upcoming OSAA playoffs. North Bend (9-3, 16-7) finishes as the league’s No. 3 team after winning at Siuslaw (2-10, 6-16), 64-46, in Florence, and Brookings-Harbor (7-5, 14-8) locked up the No. 4 spot with a 66-48 win at South Umpqua (4-8, 11-11). On the girl’s side, top-ranked Sutherlin (12-0, 23-0) completed a perfect season with a 67-26 win at Douglas Friday night. The loss dropped the Trojans (6-6, 10-11) to No. 4 behind No. 3 Marshfield (7-5, 16-8) which had a bye. Brookings-Harbor (9-2, 20-2) is the No. 2 seed with a 73-35 win at South Umpqua (1-10, 2-19), and Siuslaw (4-8, 6-16) downed visiting North Bend (2-10, 4-17) 48-40.

Co-champions Marshfield and Sutherlin play tonight in a boy’s basketball game at Coquille, 6 p.m., to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds from the 4A Far West League for the upcoming state playoffs.

North Bend’s girls finished second by two-points at the 2014 OSAA State Swimming Championships Saturday at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham. The Bulldogs were the defending champions and fell 48 to 46 to St. Mary’s of Medford. Marshfield finished seventh with 23-points. North Bend sophomore Cassie Dallas won two individual titles (200 IM & 100 Breast). Cottage Grove won the boy’s title over Newport (52-47). North Bend tied Seaside for seventh (14). Sophomore Karl Stuntzner-Gibson won two events for the Bulldogs (200 Free & 500 Free). Henley defeated Phoenix 417.5 to 261 to win the two-day Class 4A District 3 Regional Wrestling Championship Saturday at Phoenix High School in Southern Oregon. Marshfield finished fourth (192), and North Bend was 11th (62). Marshfield crowned a champion at 106 in Cole Smith; Tyler Campbell was second at 113; defending state champion Thaddeus Nelson lost in the 126 final due to an “injury default.” In third place matches: Marshfield’s Cade Hite won at 113; the Pirates’ Taylor Dornbusch was fourth at 152; North Bend’s Aaron Wagner was fourth at 170; and, Marshfield’s Kaleb Campbell was third at 285. The OSAA State Wrestling Championships are this weekend at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.
