Marshfield and North Bend Sports, Jan. 22

Booster Clubs
The Marshfield and North Bend booster clubs meet today at noon.  The Bulldog backers meet at the high school’s Hall of Champions at noon.  Cost of lunch is $7.  The Pirate supporters will gather at Abby’s Pizza in Coos Bay.  Coaches and student-athletes will be in attendance.  Both meetings are open to all of those interested in local high school sports.

Marshfield finished the first-half of the 4A Far West League boys’ basketball season with a 55-51 win over visiting Sutherlin Tuesday night in Coos Bay.  The Pirates (5-1, 9-7) outscored the Bulldogs (3-2, 11-4) 21-13 in the third to take a 43-36 lead into the final eight-minutes.  Noah Callier led Sutherlin with a game-high 21-points, while Rylee Trendell led Marshfield with 15.  Marshfield also won the JV game, 64-22 as sophomore Kasey Banks scored 23-points for the Pirates.  Unbeaten Sutherlin (5-0, 15-0) beat Marshfield’s girls, (3-3, 11-6) 53-22, and the younger Bulldogs also won the JV game, 39-29.

North Bend beat Brookings-Harbor, 74-65 Tuesday night in a 4A Far West League boys’ basketball game at Brookings-Harbor.  The win puts the Bulldogs alone in second place, a half-a-game behind Marshfield.  North bend ends the first half of the FWL season Friday at home to Siuslaw.  Siuslaw had the night off.  In the only other FWL game, South Umpqua won at Douglas 56-43.  North Bend’s girls (0-5, 2-12) lost at Brookings-Harbor (4-1, 13-1), 71-34, and Douglas (4-1, 8-6) beat visiting South Umpqua (1-4, 2-14) 53-47.
