6-8th Pirate XC Meet Report – Sunset Beach Invitational – Sunset Beach State Park
Report from Middle School XC Coach Steve Delgado. Eighty-seven girls and seventy-six boys for nine Far West League teams converged on picturesque Sunset Beach State Park for the annual Marshfield hosted Sunset Beach Invitational. The flat course provides fast times as the harriers transverse the beach, creek, trail and marshy grass fields. In the girls race Kaeli Ramos (Siuslaw – 8th) and Kaylee Delzotti (Millicoma – 7th) dueled all the way to the line with the year older Ramos claiming the title but Delzotti a 46 second PR over last year and knowledge she can compete with Ramos at the District meet. Rayne Quinones (MHS – 8th) set a 40 second PR over last year and Jordan Baarstad (Millicoma – 7th) clipped 2:43 off her previous mark. The Lady Pirates finished 3rd in team competition scoring. For the boys Jeremy Roe (MHS – 8th) is finally showing his fitness form with a first place win in 10:25 and a 40 second PR over his time last year. Battling colds Gabe Delgado & Aiden Leahy-Crooks (MHS – 8th), and Zach Holt (Millicoma – 6th) finished 4th, 5th, 6th respectively. Delgado earned a 36 second PR, Leahy-Crooks 55 seconds. Cameron Nye (MHS – 8th) rounded out the scoring 5 in 12th place and showed marked improvement from his times last week. The scoring brought the Pirate total to 28 for another easy win over 2nd place North Bend with 55. The Pirates’ next race will be Saturday October 11th at the Millicoma Marsh Trail. This race is being held in conjunction with the South Coast Running Club’s annual 5k run and a kid’s 1 mile fun run and 400m “Pumpkin Dash”. All proceeds go to benefit our 6-8th grade XC team and the restoration project for the Blossom Gulch Trail.
