Marshfield swept Sutherlin in two non-league prep softball games at Sutherlin Friday. The Lady Pirates won the first game 19-1 in five innings with Mackenzie Johnson pitching. Kaylie Hall pitched the second game. Marshfield (4-3) is scheduled to play at Coquille Monday, 5 p.m.

Marshfield dropped a pair of non-conference baseball games at Sutherlin Friday. The Bulldogs won the opener 10-8 and took the second game 3-1. The Pirates (13-1) are scheduled to play at Coquille Monday, 5 p.m.

Marshfield’s track teams swept the Petersen Memorial Invitational at Douglas High School in Winston Saturday. Eighteen teams competed in the coed meet with the Pirate boys winning with 200.5-points. Mazama was second with 73, followed by Brookings-Harbor 62, Pacific 44.5, Phoenix 43 and North Bend in sixth with 40-points. Marshfield’s girls won with 154-points, Phoenix was second with 127.5, followed by Brookings-Harbor 66. North Bend was 12th with 25-points. Individually, North Bend senior Michael Brown won both the 800 (2:05.02) and 3000 (9:30.59). Bulldog sophomore Ty Hampton threw the Javelin 193-08 for a 4A state leading best. Marshfield senior Trevor Johnson won both the Triple Jump (40-06) and the Long Jump (21-03). The LJ mark leads the 4A state. Pirate sophomore Devin Benson won the 100 (11.72), second in the 200 (23.48), and ran legs on both winning relay teams (400R Benson, Kellar, Johnson, Hampton 44.67), and (1600R Benson, Lemmons, Johnson, Hampton 3:39.54). Individually for the girls: Marshfield individual winners; 300H Hannah Beaulieu (49.47), 3000 Jazmin Chavez (11:21.09), 800 Tess Garrett (2:32.47), and two-time runner-up Khaley Aguliar (PV 11-0, & 100H 17.02) teamed up to win the 1600R (4:21.46). Chavez’s 3K time leads the 4A state. For North Bend, freshman Chelsea Howard was second in the 100 (13.49), and classmate Annika Strasman was second in the Discus (99-02). This week, Marshfield has a FWL JV meet at Siuslaw on Tuesday, and then the Marist Track Classic in Eugene. North Bend also has the FWL JV meet in Florence, and then the Jim Robinson Twilight Saturday in Roseburg.
