Marshfield’s baseball team finally got its home opener in for the 2017 prep season Friday with a doubleheader agaist visiting Siuslaw. It was also the 4A Far West League opener for both teams. The Pirates swept the Vikings 9-5 and 5-2. On Saturday, the two teams met again in Florence with Marshfield completing the three-game sweep, 12-6. This week, the Pirates (3-0, 4-4-1) take on South Umpqua (0-1, 1-9). The first game is scheduled for Tuesday in Coos Bay, followed by a doubleheader Friday in Tri City.

North Bend’s baseball team got their FWL opener in with South Umpqua on Thursday at Douglas HS in Winston. The Bulldogs (1-0, 2-6) won 4-2, but will have to play the Lancers in a doubleheader Monday at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend, 3 & 5 p.m.

North Bend split a Far West League softball doubleheader at South Umpqua in Tri City Friday. The Lancers won the opener 8-2, but the Bulldogs took the second game 14-3, handing South Umpqua its first loss of the season. On Wednesday, the Lancers beat North Bend 17-4 in both teams FWL opener at Tri City. The Bulldogs (1-2, 7-5) have Brookings-Harbor (0-2, 4-5) this week with Tuesday’s game at BH, and Friday’s doubleheader at the Oak Street Park fields in North Bend.

After dropping their FWL opener at home Friday 3-2 to visiting Siuslaw, the Lady Pirates stormed back and swept a doubleheader against the Lady Viks in Florence Saturday 4-2 & 15-1. Marshfield (2-1, 8-4) takes on South Umpqua this week with a single game scheduled Tuesday in Tri City, and a doubleheader in Coos Bay Friday.
