North Bend Wrestlers split their head to head matches against South Umpqua and Sutherlin with a 54-21 win over the Lancers Thursday and a 44-27 loss to host Sutherlin. North Bend had three wrestlers winning both matches. Aaron Wagner, Jake Buck and Fred Barahona as well as solo wins from Austin Miller, Zach Schneider, Phillip Kuckuck and Nathan Mersino. Aaron Wagner and Jake Buck were the only wrestlers of the night to win both matches by pin.

Marshfield swept a pair of 4A Far West League wrestling duals Thursday night in the Pirate Palace at MHS. The Pirates beat Brookings-Harbor 71-9, and Douglas 54-18.

North Bend finished the first half of the 4A Far West League boys’ basketball race tied with Marshfield for the lead with a 5-1 record. The Bulldogs (5-1, 12-4) beat the Pirates (5-1, 9-8) in their head-to-head meeting. North Bend downed visiting Siuslaw (1-5, 5-11) 61-43 Friday night. In other FWL games, Sutherlin (4-2, 12-5) beat visiting Douglas (0-6, 1-14) 49-28, and South Umpqua (2-4, 8-7) lost at Brookings-Harbor (4-2, 11-5) 66-57. In girl’s FWL games, Sutherlin (6-0, 17-0) finished the first half unbeaten by downing visiting Douglas (4-2, 8-7) 52-19. Brookings-Harbor (5-1, 14-1) won at home over South Umpqua (1-5, 2-15) 70-26, and Siuslaw (2-4, 4-12) won at North Bend (0-6, 2-13) 46-41.

Eagle Point’s back court outscored Marshfield 23-3 en route to a 46-30 non-conference boys’ basketball win in Southern Oregon Saturday night. The Eagle’s two seniors, Jorge Quintero (13-points) and Cesar Chavez (10-points) were the only players in double figures. The Pirates’ Rylee Trendell scored nine. Eagle Point, the No. 3 power ranked 5A team in the state improves to 13-2, while Marshfield, the No. 15 4A team, falls to 9-8. Eagle point won the JV game 67-41. Marshfield’s girls won their game 31-29. But, the Pirates scored no points in the second period, while EP scored none in the third. Jade Chavez led Marshfield with nine-points, and Savannah Thurman scored eight. The Pirates improve to 12-6, while the Eagles fall to 7-8.
