ODOT release – ELKTON – Oregon 38 (Umpqua Highway) is now open from Reedsport to Interstate 5. ODOT opened the section of highway from Elkton to Drain at 4:30 p.m. today. On Wednesday, the highway was opened from Reedsport to Elkton. Motorist should drive with caution as workers continue removing trees along the shoulders of the highway. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed. Meanwhile, Oregon 138W (Elkton-Sutherlin Highway) is expected to be opened later tonight as soon as utility lines are repaired. Both highways were closed on Monday, when a powerful snowstorm knocked down power lines and thousands of trees across Douglas County. ODOT crews and local contractors have been working around the clock to clear snow and debris from all state highways. ODOT would like to acknowledge the invaluable service provided by Jensen’s Tree Service of Bandon, Johnson Rock Products of Coos Bay, Rundell construction of Drain, Fred Wahl Marine of Reedsport, and Douglas Electric.
