After averaging 20.5 points over the Ducks’ last two games, guard Lexi Bando has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. It’s the first time Bando has won the award and the first weekly award for the Ducks this season. Bando scored a season-high and team-high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting in the Ducks’ double-overtime win over Santa Clara on Thursday before posting 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting in Oregon’s Sunday loss to Fresno State. Bando, who ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 52.1 three-point shooting percentage, went 7-of-12 from long range this week. She shot 17-of-30 overall (56.7 percent). In addition to her scoring, Bando dished out five assists and grabbed two rebounds. Bando and the Ducks return from their holiday break to host Seattle U on Dec. 29. Junior Ruth Hamblin has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced. The center was a key piece in Oregon State’s three-win week, which has propelled the Beavers to No. 10 in the AP rankings, the highest ranking in school history. Hamblin’s best performance came in the team’s biggest test of the season so far, as she recorded her seventh double-double of the campaign in OSU’s win over No. 6/6 North Carolina on Tuesday. Hamblin put up 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting in the contest, to go with 10 rebounds and five blocks. She played 35 minutes in the game, helping protect the basket defensively. Hamblin followed that up with another double-digit scoring effort against Southern Illinois, putting up 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting, while adding four rebounds and two blocks. The Canadian closed out her week with a six-point, three-rebound, three-block performance in just 14 minutes of playing time, as the Beavers cruised past Nevada on Saturday. Hamblin is averaging a team-best 14.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season, and is shooting 68.9 percent from the floor, best in the nation. Hamblin sits just one block short of the Oregon State school record. The Beavers will return to action Sunday, when they take on No. 8 Tennessee in Knoxville.
