Not a good Saturday for Oregon and Oregon State’s football programs. The Ducks were upset at Arizona 42-16, while Oregon State lost at home to Washington, 69-27, Oregon State (6-5, 4-4) plays at Oregon (9-2, 6-2) Friday, 4 p.m., in the annual Civil War game.

Oregon’s defense dismantled the Utah attack as the Ducks recorded 17 team blocks in its 3-1 win over the Utes 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15, Friday at Crimson Court. Kelsey Zimmerman tallied a team-best 12 kills but the Oregon State volleyball team was edged in three sets by Colorado Friday at the Coors Event Center. Set scores were 26-28, 21-25 and 20-25. Liz Brenner and Martenne Bettendorf powered the Ducks’ offense with 37 combined kills as the Oregon volleyball team (17-11, 10-8 Pac-12) defeated Colorado 3-1 (29-27, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13) to win its third-consecutive match, Sunday. Oregon State senior Becky Defoe became the 10th player in Pac-12 Conference history with 2,000 or more digs when she finished with 27 in the Beavers’ loss to Utah Sunday. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 17-25 and 24-26. OSU (9-20 overall, 0-18 Pac-12 Conference) plays at Washington Wednesday. Oregon will begin its final week of the 2013 regular season with a quick turnaround, Wednesday at Washington State. The last home match for the Ducks will be Friday in Eugene against Oregon State for senior night.

Edward Cheserek became Oregon’s first freshman ever to claim the NCAA Division I Cross Crountry individual title with a time of 29:41.1. The newcomer from Newark, N.J., by way of Kenya joined an elite group of Oregon champions that include: Steve Prefontaine, Alberto Salazar and Galen Rupp Saturday afternoon. The Men of Oregon took fifth in the team competition with 274 points just behind BYU’s 267 points. Top-ranked Colorado claimed the team title with 149 points with Northern Arizona taking the runner-up spot with 169 points. Oklahoma State, the three-time defending team champion, rounded out the top three with 230 points. The Women of Oregon, who were the defending national champions, finished in 14th place and were paced by Annie Leblanc who clocked in at 21:03.9 for 66th. Megan Patrignelli, a senior from Monroe, N.Y., was the second Duck to cross the finish line with a time of 21:06 (70th).

The Oregon State wrestling team lost a hard-fought battle on Sunday to No. 19 Boise State by a score of 19-18, the end result coming down to the final bout of the day. Oregon State hosts No. 3 Minnesota next Saturday at 7 p.m. PT.

His night actually began with a miss, which Damyean Dotson put well behind him by evening’s end. Along with three games’ worth of offensive futility. Oregon’s sophomore wing, the Ducks’ top returning scorer, had yet to crack double digits in the early going this season. That ended Sunday, when Dotson scored 17 to lead six players in double figures as the 17th-ranked UO men’s basketball team (4-0) beat visiting San Francisco, 100-82 in Eugene.
