Oregon State was able to ride out the momentum of a 26-point lead to escape the Galen Center with a 76-66 victory over USC on Thursday night. The Beavers jumped out to an incredible start, taking a 23-point lead into halftime, looking to put away the Trojans early in the second frame. It appeared as if Oregon State (15-12, 7-8 Pac-12) would be able to move into cruise control in the first few minutes of the final period, but USC (10-18, 1-14) would storm back to bring it within five, 69-64. Time would not favor the Men of Troy, as Oregon State was able to close it out from the stripe.

Joseph Young scored 26 points including the go-ahead 3-pointer in the second overtime, and Oregon outlasted short-handed UCLA 87-83 Thursday night. The Bruins played without Jordan Adams and Kyle Anderson, their top two scorers. The sophomore guards were suspended for the game for what first-year coach Steve Alford called a violation of team rules. They’re expected to return to action Sunday night when the Bruins entertain Oregon State in their final home game of the season. Jason Calliste added 18 points, Mike Moser had 12 points and a season-high 20 rebounds and Richard Amardi added 12 points for the Ducks (19-8, 7-8 Pac-12), who outrebounded the Bruins 50-38 while winning their fourth straight despite blowing a 15-point lead.

Oregon’s softball team competes in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, Florida this weekend. The Ducks play Auburn Friday, 8 a.m., followed by Florida at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oregon plays Bradley at 10:15 a.m., and Maryland at 2:45 p.m. On Sunday, Oregon gets Illinois State, 9 a.m. Oregon State is at the Long Beach State Invite in California. The Beavers play Illinois on Friday, 9 a.m., and UCSB at 11:30 a.m. On Saturday, OSU gets Utah Valley at 9 a.m., and Michigan on Sunday, 9 a.m.
