North Bend’s boys finished third and Marshfield’s girls fifth at the OSAA State Basketball Tournaments in Forest Grove. The three-day 4A tourneys ended Saturday night with Sutherlin winning a fourth straight state title and Seaside won the boys after finishing second last year. The Bulldogs (22-5) bettered Tillamook 74-56 for third place, while the Lady Pirates lost to Seaside 53-40 in the third/fifth place trophy game. North Bend opened the tourney at Pacific University and beat defending state champion Philomath 61-51. But, in the semi-finals, the Bulldogs lost to Seaside. 67-55. Tillamook fell to Valley Catholic in the other semi-final, But the Valiants went on to lose a close championship game 71-63 to the Seagulls. North Bend senior Garrett Curtis was named First Team All Tourney. Marshfield (20-8) opened at Forest Grove HS and beat Baker 53-35, but the Lady Pirates ran into a deep and talented Banks team, 54-33. Sutherlin beat Seaside in the other semi-final, and then went on to come-from-behind and nip Banks 49-43 for the girl’s title. Marshfield sophomore Hailey Browning was named to the Second Team All Tourney. Attendance for the 4A tourney was 11,752.
