Marshfield’s girls were ninth and the Pirate boys sixth at the OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A State Swimming Championships Saturday at Tualatin Hills Swim & Tennis Club in Beaverton. Catlin Gabel won the girl’s state title while Newport won its third straight state championship with the boy’s crown. Individually for MHS: Senior Zach Randle was fourth (1:52.15) in the 200 Free; junior Mira Matthews was fifth in the 50 Free (25.33); Matthews was sixth (57.33) in the 100 Free; Randle was sixth in the 500 Free (5:13.97); the team of Paige Kirchner, Kally Haynes, Sydney Trendell & Matthews was sixth (1:50.13) in the 200 Free Relay; the team of Aaron Hutchins, Robert Kliewer, Jack Waddington & Randle was sixth (1:37.21) in the 200 Free Relay; sophomore Hutchins was fourth (1:05.90) in the 100 Breast; the team of Isabelle Hale, Haynes, Kirchner & Matthews was sixth (4:00.62) in the 400 Free Relay; and, the team of Hutchins, Kliewer, Waddington & Randle were second (3:33.41) in the 400 Free Relay.
