Prep girls’ basketball for Friday, Feb. 16: 4A – North Bend ended the regular District 4 League season with a win at Junction City 45-40. The Bulldogs finish third in league and will now wait for the upcoming OSAA playoffs. Final District 4 League standings: Tenth-ranked Marshfield (6-2, 14-10), 11th ranked Marist Catholic (5-3, 11-10), 17th ranked North Bend (4-4, 15-9), 19th ranked Junction City (3-5, 8-12), 18th ranked Cottage Grove (2-6, 13-11). 3A – Lakeview lost at Coquille 45-25. The eighth-ranked Red Devils (10-3, 23-3) finish third in the Far West League and will play at tenth-ranked Creswell (19-7) Saturday, Feb. 24th. 2A – At the Valley Coast Conference Tournament at Sutherlin, second-ranked Bandon beat Oakridge 59-46 and will play East Linn Christian for the Tournament Title on Saturday. 1A – At the Skyline League Tournament, North Bend HS, Powers lost to North Douglas 45-38. Prep boys’ basketball for Friday, Feb. 16: 3A – Siuslaw lost at Sisters 62-55. Coquille beat visiting North Valley 40-39. Prep girls’ basketball for Sat. Feb. 17: 2A – Bandon won the Valley Coast Conference Tournament at Sutherlin High School, 56-23 over East Linn Christian. The second-ranked Tigers (16-0, 24-2) will host fifteenth-ranked Santiam (14-13) in the upcoming OSAA playoffs first round, Saturday, Feb. 24. 1A – Powers lost 46-29 to New Hope Christian at the Skyline District Tournament, North Bend HS. The 25th ranked Cruisers (17-10) advance to the OSAA playoffs to play at seventh-ranked North Clackamas Christian (20-4), Wednesday, Feb. 21. Prep boys’ basketball for Sat., Feb. 17: 4A – North Bend fell at top-ranked Junction City 60-52. Bulldogs finish the regular season 7-17. Final District 4 Standings have: JC & seventh-ranked Marist Catholic both at 7-1, ninth-ranked Marshfield third at 4-4, and both 17th ranked Cottage Grove & 21st ranked North Bend at 1-7. OSAA Rankings Freeze on Tuesday, Feb. 20 to determine the playoffs.

Newport swept the top trophies for the boys’ and girls’ teams at the OSAA State 4A/3A/2A/1A Swim Championships, Saturday at Tualatin Hills Swim Club in Beaverton. The Cubs won the girl’s first-place trophy with 54 points, while La Grande tallied 43, Sweet Home 29 and Cove/Union 26. Marshfield was ninth with 15-points, and North Bend 13th with seven-points. Individually for the Pirate and Bulldog girls: 200 Medley Relay – North Bend (6) Abby Woodruff, Brynn Buskerud, Adrianna Delph, Emma Slade (2:04.90); 100 Fly – Allison Wright (M), fourth, (1:01.77); 100 Free – Emma Slade (NB) fifth (57.92); 500 Free – Allison Wright (M) third, 5:30.44; 100 Breast – Brynn Buskerud (NB) sixth (1:15.48); 400 Free Relay – Marshfield third Avery Batholomew, Ella Croson, Lily Thompson, Allison Wright (3:57.73). Newport’s boys took first with 72-points, followed by Catlin Gabel 47, La Grande 31 and North Bend fourth with 23. Marshfield was 11th with eight-points.
