Probation Violation, Aug. 22

Newmark Ave., CCSO release – On August 17, 2018 at approximately 12:20am, a Coos County Deputy conducted a traffic stop Newmark Street near Marple Street, Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon for failing to maintain lane. The truck in question crossed the fog line and centerline several times in a short distance of travel. When the Deputy contacted the driver, it was discovered he was a registered sex offender with probation stipulations of no contact with minors. The Deputy saw a woman in the back seat of the vehicle and was unable to tell her age due her actions in attempting to conceal her face. Needing to identify the woman, the Deputy asked for picture identification. The woman provided the Deputy with her Oregon identification. Her Oregon identification card revealed the woman as 35-year old Margaret A. Farris, Coos Bay. During the course of the contact, it was discovered that Margaret A. Farris was a convicted felon for possession of methamphetamine with probation stipulation of no drugs and no drug paraphernalia. A consent search of Farris’ purse yielded several hypodermic syringes. Farris’ probation officer was contacted who requested Farris be detained for a probation violation. A cursory search of Farris’ person was conducted and nothing further was found. Farris was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail. Upon arrival at the Coos County Jail, Farris told the Deputy she had something hidden and stuffed in her bra. A more in depth search was conducted of Farris’ person while she was in booking. This search yielded a large quantity of Heroin, Methamphetamine, several unidentified, multicolored pills, a pipe with residue and a straw with residue, all, which were seized for criminal charging. The items will be sent to the Oregon State Police crime lab for testing.
