Reckless Driver, May 11

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 05-06-16 at approximately 1030 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report of unknown male subjects attempting to make forcible entry to a residence in Powers. According to the property owner, Mr. Thom Elam, when he confronted the male subjects they fled in a newer gray Buick sedan. The property owner followed the suspects in his own vehicle in an attempt to identify who they were and to report the incident to the Police. At approximately mile post 15 on Powers Hwy, the suspects reportedly stopped their vehicle and fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the victim, then continued north bound on Powers Hwy. The victim was uninjured and he continued to follow the vehicle. Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and Officers from the Myrtle Point Police Department responded to the area. Officers were able to intercept the suspect vehicle at approximately mile post 1 on Powers Hwy. The suspect did not yield when a traffic stop was attempted after the vehicles got onto Hwy 42 and were traveling east towards Roseburg. The ensuing pursuit reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour east bound on Hwy 42. Because of heavy vehicle traffic and dangerous passes made by the suspect, Deputies lost sight of the vehicle. Thanks to numerous citizen reports of the suspect vehicle, Oregon State Police Troopers and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the Camas Valley area, still east bound. OSP troopers attempted a traffic stop on the Buick but the driver did not yield, and again fled east toward the Winston area. The suspect vehicle reportedly reached speeds of over 120 miles per hour. The pursuit was finally terminated when Officers from the Winston Police Department deployed spike strips in front of the fleeing vehicle, flattening all 4 tires. The suspect vehicle stopped in the parking lot of The Company Store in Winston. The driver of the vehicle, Emmanuel Pagemont Darabi (30 YOA from Oakland, CA), was taken into custody for Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude (Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing. No passengers were found to be in the suspect vehicle at the time of the stop. Mr. Darabi was transported to the Coos County Jail where he was lodged. There is an ongoing investigation into this incident to establish. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated.
