News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On July 22, 2015, at about 1402 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence near mile post 2, Fishtrap Road, Coquille in response to a report of a robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival deputies contacted 60 year old Thomas Keane. Mr. Keane told deputies that he had just been robbed at gunpoint. Mr. Keane stated that he had met a man at a local convenience store earlier in the week and had arranged to buy marijuana from the man. Mr. Keane told deputies that today he had met with the man again at Sturdivant Park and he and the man drove out Fishtrap Road, supposedly to a residence out there where the man “had his marijuana stashed.” Mr. Keane reported that the two of them left Sturdivant Park in the suspect’s car, a teal green four door sedan and headed out Fishtrap Road. Mr. Keane told the deputies that when they got out about 2 miles on Fishtrap Road, out of Coquille, the man pulled out a gun and demanded all of Mr. Keane’s money and jewelry. Mr. Keane gave the man all of his money and property he had on him, a total value of over $1000. The man then told Mr. Keane to get out of the car and start walking. The suspect then drove off. Mr. Keane went to the nearest residence on Fishtrap and called 911. From the information that Mr. Keane reported, along with the description of the vehicle and suspect, deputies were able to go to the local the convenience store where the two had met and obtain video of them. From this video, Mr. Keane’s information and the assistance of the Coquille Police Department they were able to identify the man as 28 year old, Coquille resident, Daniel Rodriguez. Officer from the Coquille Police Department and Sheriff’s Deputies went to where Mr. Rodriguez was last known to live in Coquille and contacted him there. Daniel Rodriguez was arrested for Robbery I, Theft II and Menacing. He was transported to the Coos County Jail without incident. Officers located the vehicle driven by Mr. Rodriguez at a local automotive shop in Coquille. The handgun used was later recovered and found to be a realistic looking airsoft bb pistol. The investigation is continuing.
