School Lockdown in North Bend, Sept. 27

On 09/25/18, at 3:37 pm, the North Bend Police Department received a second-hand report that a 15-year old threatened to “kill” a 17-year-old student (Student 1) and “shoot up the high school.” This threat had been made in the area of the “smoker’s trail” in-between the high school and the Pony Village Mall. School officials immediately placed the school in lockdown and police responded. Upon locating and interviewing the Student 1, he indicated that the suspect did NOT threaten him personally, NOR did he make any statement about “shooting, guns, or threats of gun violence.” Student 1 reported that the suspect appeared to be angry with another 17-year-old student in the school (Student 2), whom the suspect believes to be involved with the suspect’s ex-girlfriend. The area was canvassed and searched and the suspect was not located near the schools. Student 2 was interviewed and precautionary measures suggested to he and his parents to keep him safe. Continued attempts were made throughout the night to locate and interview the suspect, who is not enrolled or attending school. His parent had not seen him in several days, but did not report him as a runaway. While the threat of violence against the student body was not as reported, police increased their presence at the schools. At 10:30 am today, 09/26/18, police located the suspect who expressed suicidal intentions. He is currently being interviewed and mental health services have been contacted.
