News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office. On August 12th, 2015 at approximately 9:45 PM, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were made aware of two hikers lost in the Cascade Head Wilderness Area. An on-duty Search and Rescue deputy responded to the area and made cellular phone contact with one of the subjects. The subject indicated they had fallen down an embankment when attacked by bees and were stuck on a ledge overlooking the Salmon River Estuary. The Lincoln County Search and Rescue team was activated and members quickly responded to the scene. The subjects, identified as Adrian Mondrago-Laura, Sherman, OR & Ethan Ford, McMinnville, were able to use a mapping program on one of the cellular phones to send a screen shot of their approximate location to the Search and Rescue team. Using the screen shot, the search team was able to get close enough to the subjects to make voice contact. The Search and Rescue team maintained voice contact with the subjects as they negotiated the hazardous terrain and deployed rescue equipment. Within 45 minutes of beginning their search, the ground team reported they had successfully rescued the two subjects. They were not injured and did not require medical treatment. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team is comprised of approximately thirty volunteers and two deputies from the Patrol Division. They would remind hikers to always prepare for unforeseen circumstances by packing extra food, water, clothing, and a signaling device while venturing into the wilderness.
