Everyone’s favorite upside-down fairytale comes to the Liberty Theatre stage when Little Theatre on the Bay presents Shrek the Musical, a musical stage adaptation based on the Dreamworks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. The show opens Friday, May 4th and runs through Sunday, May 27th with weekend performances. Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00PM. LTOB Director, Michael Pedder directs a cast of over 40 local youth and adults from our community, making it one of the biggest productions the theatre has produced. Shrek the Musical tells the tale of an ogre – an unlikely hero that finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek. The Little Theatre on the Bay is a non-profit community theatre whose mission is to cultivate the arts in Coos County. LTOB has operated and managed North Bend’s historic Liberty Theatre as a performing arts venue serving residents and visitors to Coos County since 1959. The theatre is currently in Phase III of a multi-phase restoration project. This phase includes the complete restoration of the lobby and concession areas. While construction is not complete, the lobby, concession counter and bar will be fully operational and open for our patrons. The progressing restoration project will ensure the North Bend Theatre’s role as the architectural and cultural hub of the community. Pedder works with a creative team that includes assistant director Taylor Marchant. The large cast is led by John Adamson as Shrek, Aymee Pedder as Fiona, Aiden Slaska as Donkey, Taylor Marchant as Lord Farquaad, and McKenzie Rescorla as Pinnochio. Pedder urges families to come to the theatre. “In the words of Pinnochio in our musical, ‘Prepare to have your mind blown!’” Tickets are available at thelibertytheatre.org.
