SOCS
South Oregon Coast Softball (SOCS) wrapped up their short summer season June 26 & 27 at a tournament in Junction City. Bill Otton coached the team, but says he was assisted by about seven others who “all worked well together.” The SOCS are a young squad this summer with three seventh graders participating. Although the team lost all five of their games at JC, Otton says they did well against some experienced Under 18 teams. Hitting during the tourney for the SOCS: Hannah Rossback 8/12, Haley Parker 8/12, Sterling Williams 7/14, Kaylee Hall 6/12, Sierra Ward 6/11. “Sterling was solid at 3rd base and pitched a strong three innings. Kaylee pitched one game and showed she’s ready to be varsity first base next year (hard to replace Carli, but she’s a hard worker). Sierra played center field, but we put her at shortstop for one game; she made two sport center diving catches of line drives. The second was so spectacular that the home plate umpire called time, and ran out to give her a high five.”
