Coos County total payroll employment rose by 430 jobs in May according to the latest “South Coast Labor Trends” monthly newsletter from the Oregon Employment Department. However, “over the year, payroll employment fell by 230 jobs.” Industries adding jobs this year include Wood Product Manufacturing, Wholesale Trade, Private Education and Health Services and Leisure and Hospitality. Losses came in Business and Professional Services, Financial Activities, Construction, Retail Trade and Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities. Curry county employment rose by 180 jobs in May, but over the past year, total payroll employment decreased by 100.
