On September 19th the North Bend Public Library and the North Bend Municipal Swimming Pool will celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day with music, games, prizes, displays and a family swim party. All ages are welcome in both locations. During the week of September 16-20, kids will hear stories about pirates during storytime and people can post their pirate names at the library. Books, movies, and other pirate-themed materials will be featured and available for checkout at the library. There are two piratical events scheduled for Thursday the 19th. From 3 to 5 pm, the self-described “greatest seasong shanty supergroup in the land” Starboard Watch will perform in the library, and at 7 pm the North Bend Municipal Swimming Pool will host a pirate pool party. Swimmers can walk the plank, pin the tail on the parrot and search for treasure at the Sunken Treasure swim party. The pool is located at 2455 Pacific Street in North Bend. Mermaid swimming tails will be allowed in the pool, provided an adult guardian is in the pool with the mermaid. Admission to the pool is free and children who attend will be given a free book and swimming pass they may use on their next visit to the pool.
