Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering a Tall Ships course in Coos Bay starting March 30. Coos Bay is proclaimed as the “Tall Ship Port of Oregon.” Come aboard and sail on a “course” that will be a “voyage” to Coos Bay’s Tall Ship building history. The “course” will bring you to understanding why our bay embraced boat building from indigenous peoples’ dug-out canoes to Anglo-American designed schooners, barkentines, brigantines. Yes, we have a “ghost ship” in our maritime history! The participants will experience an interactive and engaging learning experience including a field trip to our historical shipyard locations. Participants may book tickets to sail together on an “Adventure Sail or Battle Sail” on the Lady Washington during May’s Tall Ship Days!! Instructor: Tom Leahy; Dates: March 30-April 20; Days: Monday; Time: 6:00-8:00pm; Location: Eden Hall, Rm 1; Cost: $50. For more information call Community Education 541-888-7328.
