Mark Helfrich, head football coach at the University of Oregon and native of Coos Bay, will speak at a fundraising event for the Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation on Thursday, February 26th. The Coos Bay Community Schools Foundation will host “An Evening with Mark Helfrich” starting at 6pm at the Mill-Casino Hotel. Tickets are $100 each, and proceeds will benefit children in Coos Bay Schools. The event includes a buffet dinner, a short live auction, and an after-dinner speech by Coach Helfrich. Approximately 220 tickets have been sold to date; more are available, but are selling briskly. Tickets can be purchased at Walt’s Pourhouse, 7 Devils Brewery, Oregon Pacific Bank, the Mill Casino Hotel, Farr’s True Value in Coos Bay, and Hill & Hill Financial. Alternatively, tickets are available by mail by contacting Nancy Girt at (541)269-1330. Coach Helfrich graduated from Marshfield High School in 1992, and from Southern Oregon University in 1996. His previous coaching experience includes SOU, Boise State, Arizona State, and Colorado. He is the first native Oregonian to helm the Oregon football program in 71 years.
