News release from CBPD. Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, the Coos Bay Police Department responded to a report of subjects passing counterfeit money at Walmart and Fred Meyer. During the investigation, police officers learned that a 20 year old Myrtle Point man named Blaine Monson was responsible for passing four counterfeit ten dollar bills at Fred Meyer, and a male associate of his identified as 25 year old Brandon Lorenzi of Coos Bay had passed five counterfeit ten dollar bills at Walmart. Coos Bay Police Officers identified the vehicle associated with the two subjects that morning. Around an hour and a half after police received the initial counterfeit report, the suspect vehicle was spotted by police officers traveling east on Newmark Ave near Morrison. The vehicle was stopped and both subjects were taken into custody. Mr. Monson was found to have three misdemeanor warrants issued for his arrest out of Coos County, and Mr. Lorenzi was found to have a felony parole warrant issued for his arrest. When Mr. Lorenzi was taken into custody, police officers found over three hundred dollars in counterfeit ten dollar bills on the floor next to him. Additionally, Lorenzi and Monson were each found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Blaine Monson was transported to the Coos County Jail on the three warrants, and additional charges of first degree forgery, and possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, both class C felony crimes. He was released from jail the following morning at 8:30 AM. Brandon Lorenzi was transported to the Coos County Jail on the felony parole warrant, and additional charges of first degree forgery, possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. He is still currently incarcerated at the Coos County Jail.
