On Wednesday September 26, 2018 at approximately 10:10 AM. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 84 westbound near mile post 301. Preliminary investigation reveals that 1993 GMC PU pulling a U-Haul trailer, operated by Eugene Rowley (65) of Goldendale, WA. was westbound and passed a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck, operated by Alexandr Ciubuc (58) of Tumwater, WA. The GMC PU and the semi-truck collided, went through the median, and came to rest adjacent to the eastbound lanes. Both eastbound and westbound fast lanes were closed for approximately 5 hours. Eugene Rowley and his passenger Ellen Rowley (63) from Goldendale, WA. both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Ciubuc was transported to St. Alphonsus medical center in Baker City with non-life threatening injuries.
