Strong winds made it difficult last Thursday afternoon for firefighter to control a brush fire that officials believe started from an unattended campfire on Empire Blvd., in Coos Bay. Firefighters from Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston and the Coos Forest Protective Association all responded to the brush fire that began about 4 p.m. It took three hours to extinguish the fire, because of gusty winds. It was the third brush fire in less than a week in the Bay Area. Fire officials are reminding residents that Fire Season is now in effect and no outdoor burning is allowed. Questions on burn permits should be directed to your local fire department.
