The City of Coos Bay recently received a grant from the Oregon Public Health Institute’s HEAL Cities program to develop a logo and to add wayfinding signs to the Coos Waterfront Walkway. The City is interested in public input on the proposed logo designs by Friday, December 18th. The Coos Waterfront Walkway project proposes to create a park and walkway along the bay front allowing citizens and visitors to take advantage of the recreational, commercial, and industrial activity by increasing pedestrian access to the water, and by connecting “hubs” of activity such as the Coos History Museum and the Coos Bay and North Bend Boardwalks. In 2008, with the help of a technical assistance grant from the National Park Service, a Concept Plan for a Coos Waterfront Park and Walkway was completed to articulate a vision of how the waterfront would evolve to reflect the interests of the community and to lengthen the pedestrian-accessible waterfront areas. The full text of the Concept Plan can be found here: http://portofcoosbay.com/projects/wwpPLAN.pdf To help pedestrians navigate the current collection of asphalt trails, crosswalks, roadways, boardwalk, and sidewalks along the waterfront, the City of Coos Bay’s volunteer Design Assistance Team is working with the CONNECT! the Boardwalks non-profit group and the City of North Bend to develop a unique logo for trail markers along the Coos Waterfront Park and Walkway guiding walkers along the route. The proposed logos were developed by Justin MacDuff, and are included with this press release. Those interested in providing input should send their comments to Jennifer Groth at sjgroth@charter.net by December 18th.
