A wildfire broke out Monday afternoon, Sept. 7, north of the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The fire burned an estimated 60 to 70 acres. It started about 2 p.m. on the north side of Whiskey Run Beach and quickly spread south with winds from the north blowing along the Oregon Coast. Bandon Dunes officials turned on their irrigation system to wet the golf courses. Golfers were evacuated off of both Pacific Dunes and the Old MacDonald courses. No structures were threatened. The fire was reported out about 11 p.m., although fire crews were still conducting mop up operations.
