The Coos Bay Area Zonta Service Foundation has received a grant for $1,500 from the Menasha Legacy Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation in support of their Little Red Schoolhouse Program. Zonta has provided much-needed school supplies to low-income children in grades K-6 throughout Coos County since 1998. During the last school year, our Little Red Schoolhouse program provided school supplies to an estimated 4,400 students in 14 schools. “Every year we are grateful for the support we receive to continue this important program to help local children start the school year with the tools they need to be ready to learn,” says Shirley Farmer, Little Red Schoolhouse Chair. Zonta is an international service organization of executive and professional men and women working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. Local Zonta members have contributed funds and volunteer time to a variety of local projects such as the Little Red Schoolhouse school supply program, the Women’s Safety and Resource Center, Dressing Your Best, a program to help women re-entering the workforce, and many scholarship opportunities for young women.
