Cape Arago Hwy., CCSO release – Between November 16 and November 29, 2018, The Coos County Sheriff’s Office received multiple complaints regarding a Chevrolet pickup trespassing on Rayonier Forest Resources. The pickup was photographed on the property, however the license plate on the pickup was registered to a different vehicle. The vehicle was reported to be involved in the theft of cedar boughs as well as damaging a gate. While following up on this investigation, a Timber Deputy from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to locate the vehicle at a home in the Empire area. While enroute to the residence, the Deputy observed the vehicle being operated on S. Empire Blvd (Cape Arago Highway). The Deputy stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, who identified himself as 44-year old David Elbert, Coos Bay. Elbert’s driving privileges in Oregon were suspended at a misdemeanor level. Elbert was also found to be on probation and in possession of methamphetamine. Elbert was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail. Elbert’s vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. Upon arrival at the Jail, Elbert was held on a probation violation detainer. Elbert was cited for Driving While Suspended (Misdemeanor), Criminal Trespass II, Unlawful Harvest of Forest Products, Improper Display of License Plates and Driving Uninsured.
