Despite winning a third straight Pac-12 title, rewriting the school record books offensively and entering the Women’s College World Series as the No. 1 team in one major poll, the Oregon softball team saw its season come to a close in frustratingly familiar fashion in Oklahoma City. The Ducks (51-8) had their season end at the hands of Alabama for the second year in a row, losing a WCWS elimination game 2-1 on Saturday at ASA Hall of Fame stadium.

Oregon’s run of success in extra innings came to an end Sunday, and thus so too did the UO baseball team’s season, in the NCAA Regional round. After squandering a bases-loaded, no-out opportunity in the bottom of the ninth, the Ducks lost 2-1 in 11 innings to Iowa at Hammons Field in the Springfield Regional. The Hawkeyes advanced to face regional host Missouri State later in the day, needing to beat the Bears on Sunday evening and again Monday to advance to Super Regionals. Oregon’s season came to an end at 38-25, just shy of the program’s fourth straight 40-win campaign.
